At the launch of Goundar Shipping Limited’s new passenger vessel, Lady Daya, managing director George Goundar announced the dismissal of 18 staff members due to drug and alcohol issues.

Goundar emphasized the urgent need for action against drug problems on his vessels and stated that they have zero tolerance for drugs among their crew members.

He highlighted the significant challenge of drugs, with crew and passengers involved in drug use and sales to the outer islands.

Goundar criticized the lack of governmental action and advocated for increased police transparency and presence on board. He stated that while Goundar can facilitate police presence on the vessel, they cannot take more action themselves.

To further combat the drug crisis, Goundar Shipping has implemented mandatory monthly drug tests for all crew members. He affirmed that they will not tolerate drugs on their vessels.
