Goundar Shipping purchased a 29-year-old vessel named “Lady Daya” from Japan, which has received approval from the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji.
The vessel will operate in the Northern Division and Kadavu, serving the growing transportation needs of maritime communities.
Following its purchase from Japan, the vessel underwent a comprehensive preparation process in Korea.
This included dry docking and the installation of various parts, such as the lounge and seating arrangements, to ensure it was fully equipped for operations.
The Minister for Transport has approved the vessel to join Goundar’s fleet.
Joeli Cawaki, the Chief Executive of MSAF, has mentioned that older vessels will be subject to regular safety and compliance checks, as most of Goundar Shipping’s fleet is over 20 years old.
