The Ministry of Health is focusing on upgrading infrastructure in all facilities in the Northern Division, including the Nasea Health Center, Coqeloa, and Vunivutu Nursing stations.

Even though there have been talks about expanding the facility, the Ministry of Health is addressing the staff shortage at the Nasea Health Center in Labasa town.

Health Minister Doctor Atonio Lalabalavu recognizes the staff shortage as a chronic challenge in all hospitals and health centers, including the Nasea Health Centre.

Minister Atonio Lalabalavu calls for immediate action to upgrade these facilities, stressing the need for collective responsibility instead of playing the blame game.

He emphasized that the Ministry should focus on identifying and addressing issues rather than blaming others. Lalabalavu also highlighted the need for adequate space for equipment storage in most facilities.

The centre’s central location allows for easy access to private practitioners and pharmacies, which can assist patients in seeking medical services.

The Ministry also prioritizes medical staff’s welfare in remote and rural communities. In addition, the ministry plans to maintain the Labasa main hospital, but funding will depend on the upcoming financial year.

The centre currently has 20 nurses and seven doctors, caring for over 200 patients daily. The first quarter of the next financial year will focus on these improvements.
