Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is confident that the government will achieve amendments to the 2013 Constitution.
The increasing number of independent MPs who are voting to pass the new national budget and other bills is making it easier for the government and the coalition to address more difficult issues.
Last week, the government secured 39 votes from MPs, including 10 independents, which Rabuka sees as a boost in cooperation in parliament.
He believes that dealing with more complex issues, such as constitutional and reconciliation bills, will probably be easier now due to the willingness of some opposition MPs to cooperate.
However, the combined votes still fall short of the 75% required for the coalition to be able to make changes to the constitution.
Rabuka remains optimistic, stating that the coalition has respected the constitution since its introduction in 2013 and is following it to the best of its ability.
