Teenage pregnancy cases are increasing in rural communities.

The Reproductive and Family Health Association of Fiji has reported a rise in teenage pregnancy cases in rural areas due to a lack of awareness about sexual and reproductive health.

The association has intensified its campaign by creating tailored activities and digital awareness campaigns.

They have also created animated series on consent, healthy relationships, and contraceptives.

The persistent drug crisis has also contributed to the surge in teenage pregnancy, as individuals expose themselves to high-risk sexual behavior due to the use of illicit substances.

In 2023, the Health Ministry recorded over 5,000 teenage pregnancy cases in three years, from 2018 to 2022.

The association is one of the 10 members of the International Planned Parenthood Federation in the Pacific.
