The Fiji Teachers Union (FTU) is preparing for a strike as their demand for a 30% pay increase has not been met.
General Secretary Muniappa Goundar believes the Ministry of Finance’s inaction is a deliberate delay tactic to avoid enhancing teachers’ terms and conditions.

The pay rise will prevent teachers from migrating to New Zealand and Australia and improve their living standards.
The FTU is determined to pursue all available avenues to secure a just salary for teachers, arguing that adequate pay is not just a necessity but a right for teachers who dedicate significant time to shaping children’s futures.
The argument that the nation’s debt prevents a reasonable salary increase is indefensible, and the FTU has firmly demanded a fair salary for the past 17 years.
