The Ministry is taking action to address the current teacher shortage crisis

The Ministry of Education in Fiji is temporarily reassigning secondary school teachers to primary schools to tackle the shortage of primary school teachers caused by teachers moving abroad.

Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has stated that the ministry is taking steps to minimize the impact on education.

They are also focusing on addressing shortages in STEM subjects in secondary education.

To ensure that secondary school teachers are well-prepared for primary school teaching, continuous development, and training programs are being implemented.

Additionally, the ministry is working with the TSLS to introduce programs and processes to mitigate the teacher shortage in primary schools and to address the urgent need for STEM teachers in secondary schools.

The ministry is exploring various options to prevent disruptions in student learning and teaching.
