Dr. Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu, the Health Minister of Fiji, has received an official complaint from the relatives of a 24-year-old woman who passed away last month at Nadi Hospital.
The Ministry has directed a team to investigate the death following concerns raised on Facebook by the mother.
The mother claimed there was negligence in the treatment of her daughter, who had been transferred to Lautoka Hospital after suffering a sudden asthma attack.
The Ministry stated that the severely ill patient was suffering from severe bronchial asthma and was transferred to the hospital, where she passed away the following day.
The Ministry has reminded people that social media may not be the most effective platform for addressing complaints regarding the Ministry’s services.
Lalabalavu will await the outcome of the investigation before commenting further.
