National Fire Authority (NFA) investigators are investigating three fires in the past two days, with one resulting in the death of a 75-year-old bedridden stroke patient at Kala Craft Kashmir in Lautoka.

The fire crew stopped the fire from spreading further, resulting in the trapped 75-year-old man. The two-flat house, occupied by six adults and two adults, had an estimated 80 percent damage to the structure.

Another incident occurred at Koroqaqa, Baulevu Road, with a vacant three-bedroom concrete house belonging to a 60-year-old woman. The third incident occurred at Martintar, a warehouse and container cooler fire at Turners and Growers Fiji Limited, causing an estimated 2% structure damage and 80% damage to three container coolers, costing $500,000.

NFA Chief Executive Officer Puamau Sowane emphasized the tragedy of fire loss and urged the public to ensure the safety of family members who cannot care for themselves in case of a fire. He emphasized that home fires are brutal and should be taught to all family members.
