Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that wait until next Friday when asked where the government will get the $8.1 million salary increase source for MPs, the President, and the Speaker.
The Fiji Council of Social Services and the Fiji Public Service Association have launched an online petition opposing the pay raise.
They are calling for a motion to repeal the increase, appoint an independent committee, conduct public consultations, and establish a performance review system for MPs.
Rabuka has also disputed the FCOSS Executive Director’s comments regarding the coalition government’s unity. He has not specified how public consultations on the pay rise issue will be conducted.
The 2024/2025 National Budget will be presented by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, next Friday. FCOSS and FPSA plan to organize a public rally against the pay rise for MPs.
