Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne has praised the team’s potential and noted significant room for growth.
Following a win against Tonga, Byrne reflected on the development of his new squad. Many of whom he coached during his time with the Fijian Drua. He emphasized the importance of learning about oneself and preparing for the team.
He stated that the game against Tonga reminded players not to let off steam, which could cause a loss of momentum.
The Flying Fijians secured a 50-19 victory over Tonga in their Pacific Nations Cup match yesterday. The team started strong, scoring three tries in the first ten minutes.
Tonga took advantage of a red card in the first half, scoring three tries quickly. Fiji responded with another try, leading 26-19 at halftime.
Fiji’s defence tightened in the second half, and Caleb Muntz contributed with a penalty kick. Fiji’s second-half solid performance secured their place in the semifinal next week.
The Flying Fijians will await the Japan and USA match results to prepare for the semifinal next week.
