Gladiator 2 director Ridley Scott clarified that Russell Crowe was not consulted for the sequel
Russell Crowe won a Best Actor Oscar for Gladiator.

Gladiator 2, a sequel to the 2000 film Gladiator, stars Paul Mescal as Lucius Verus. Director Ridley Scott revealed that the plot was close to being simple.

He believes Russell Crowe, who played Maximus Decimus Meridius in the original, is still one of the world’s best actors.

He hopes they will work together as long as he doesn’t start complaining about not being consulted. Scott also praised the film for its full-bore, brutal action.

At the end of Gladiator, Maximus dies and envisions reuniting with his wife and son in the afterlife.

Russell Crowe expressed his doubts about the sequel during an interview with Kyle Meredith. He stated that he is uncomfortable with the idea of a sequel as he is dead and has no say in the story.

However, he remains committed to the character’s moral journey and will see what the sequel looks like.
