Updated: 6:10am – A 65-year-old grandfather has been sentenced to 13 years imprisonment by the Labasa High Court.
The man was convicted of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

The victim is his granddaughter and was below the age of 13 years when the incident occurred.
The incident occurred between January 2011 to August 2016.
While sentencing the man, High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo said that the man seriously breached the victim’s trust by doing the unthinkable by raping and sexually assaulting his granddaughter.
Temo said that the court will not tolerate the abuse of children and it will keep passing long prison sentences as a warning to would be child rapists.
The man has a non-parole period of 11 years.
