Updated: 9:43am – A more even playing field for workers, and a concerted effort on housing will be early priorities for the new coalition.

Prime Minister-designate Jacinda Ardern has been outlining what she hopes to achieve in the first 100 days in office, which formally begin on Thursday.

She’s told TVNZ’s Q&A programme that leaving everything to the market simply hasn’t worked for workers.

But she said that doesn’t mean we’re heading for a period of industrial strife.

“Ours will be a government of partnership – if we want to deliver the gains for New Zealanders that we intend to, we will have to deliver them alongside the business community as well.”

Ms Ardern also confirmed the minimum wage will rise to $16.50 an hour by the New Year.

And she’s also sticking to her intention of some tough talk with New Zealand’s trade partners to put an end to overseas owners buying existing homes here.
