Updated: 7:50am – A 32-year-old Labasa man who fell from a mango tree on Monday remains in a coma at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.
Eliki Prasad was airlifted to Suva yesterday and is admitted at the CWM Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
Loretta Chand of Vunivau, Labasa said her husband, Eliki Prasad was vomiting blood after he fell from the tree on Monday.
“The doctors told me my husband had four broken ribs which damaged his lungs, making it difficult for him to breathe and as a result he went into coma.”
Mrs Chand was still in a state of shock yesterday.
She recalled that it was like any other normal day.
“My husband always climbed the mango tree during the day because he liked eating mangoes and our two children wanted to eat mangoes,” she said.
“Often he used to play tricks on me such as pretending that he fell down and I would rush out of the house to wake him up.
“That day I was sitting down sewing clothes inside the house. Suddenly I heard a sound and when I looked out the window, I saw him falling down along with a branch and I thought he was again playing a trick on me.”
Mrs Chand said their children ran to her and told her that their father was not moving and was vomiting blood.
With the help of their neighbours, Mrs Prasad took her husband to hospital.
Numerous efforts to get a comment from Police spokesperson Inspector Jokatama Qio proved futile.
