Man accused of raping wife granted bail by High Court

Updated: 6:34am – A man accused of raping his wife last year has been granted bail pending the trial by Suva High Court Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza.

He is charged with three counts of rape and one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

While delivering his ruling, Justice Hamza said the accused has been remanded in custody since 8th September last year.

It was heard in court that the man will now reside with his brother which is far from where the wife lives.

He has been released on a bail bond of $1,000 and has also been told to report to the Nausori Police Station every Saturday.

The trial has been set to start on 10th December next year.

This case will be called again in the Suva High Court next Friday.
