Updated: 6:21am – A man wanted in Korea in connection to the death of three people has appeared at the North Shore District Court facing a charge of theft.
The man allegedly stole a fridge freezer, microwave and washing machine worth $4100 in 2015, court documents allege.
He has been granted interim name suppression and remanded in custody without plea until November 1.
He was arrested at 5.30pm on Sunday by New Zealand police.
The 35-year-old is wanted by police in Korea in relation to the murder of his mother, stepfather and 14-year-old half-brother in South Korea on October 21.
The man fled to New Zealand with his wife and two young daughters following the deaths.
“New Zealand Police are continuing to liaise with Korean authorities and this matter is being treated as a priority,” Detective Senior Sergeant Nadene Richmond said in a statement.
“Extradition proceedings have not been received, for that reason, police cannot add anything further at this stage.
