Updated: 7:36am – The man who set himself alight on parliament grounds has died in hospital.
The man suffered critical burns after setting himself on fire in what appeared to be a protest on Thursday afternoon.Police confirmed he died in Wellington Hospital overnight.

No further details were available and they were continuing to investigate.
On Thursday, Senior Sergeant Glen Turner declined to comment on what the man’s motives were and said his identity had yet to be established.
One of the man’s placards carried an unclear message about taking children away from mothers and stopping the murder of fathers.
