Men’s National 7s team expected to receive another bonus payment

Updated: 6:52am – The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team is expected to receive another bonus payment after winning the Singapore 7s last weekend.

Fiji Rugby Union CEO, John O’Connor says that the bonus system for the national 7s side includes $10,000 for reaching the Cup semifinal, $15,000 for winning a silver medal, $25,000 for a gold medal and $50,000 for winning the World Sevens Series.

O’Connor says that the FRU board had endorsed the bonus system during their meeting in March which has been applied for both the women’s and men’s team.

At the moment 17 players are contracted in the squad which they signed at the beginning of this year.

The Men’s team have already received $60,000 with their win in Hamilton, reaching the cup semifinal in Las Vegas and gold medal in Vancouver.

O’Connor has confirmed yesterday morning that they have also given the Hong Kong 7s win bonus which is another $25,000 while the $25,000 for the Singapore 7s win will be presented soon.

He adds that Team Fiji will decide on what they will get for winning silver at the Commonwealth Games.

The Fiji 7s team have arrived into the country yesterday.

The next tournament will be held in London on the 3rd and 4th of next month.
