The Islamic Women’s Council’s national co-ordinator, Anjum Rahman, said the danger was the fourth she knew about since the assaults.

“We have been conversing with experts for certain months, since a year ago, unquestionably, about arrangements coming into 15 March,” Rahman said.

“Totally, we were anticipating this and perhaps more regrettable things.”

Rahman said supremacist and xenophobic fanatics were encouraged by the 15 March assault.

“There were two things that occurred after the mosque assaults,” she said.

“The first was that enormous overflowing of solidarity and backing, however, the other thing that occurred simultaneously was that individuals that were that way slanted felt encouraged and fortified and increasingly associated.

“The contrary and scornful discourse online has not halted, and I trust it impacts the manner in which these individuals think.”

Rahman said there might be a feeling of lack of concern that had set in since the assault, with New Zealanders thinking the nation had changed.

In any case, she said there were as yet significant issues and changes that were required.

She said the current world of politics implied that individuals “who aren’t the objectives of these sorts of dangers have a stronger voice than the individuals who are helpless against them”.
