NATIONAL NEWS: Freight truck goes up in flames in Putaruru

State Highway 1 through Putaruru is to stay shut on Wednesday after a truck burst into blazes.

A cargo truck conveying perilous substances burst into flames at 2.20 am, Putaruru Volunteer Fire Brigade Station Officer Brad Morgan told Stuff.

“The truck driver pulled over in the wake of seeing his back pivot was ablaze and inside the four minutes it took for us to arrive it was completely included,” he said.

“There was a touch of lamp oil and a wide range of different things. The entire thing was going.”

Morgan said while the driver was safe in the occurrence, teams from Rotorua and Tīrau were brought in to help the Putaruru volunteer detachment.

“Rotorua Hazmat folks are here directing and we had four trucks also from Rotorua, Tīrau, and our two,” he said.

“State Highway 1 is shut down and it will be shut throughout the day fundamentally to rescue it. She will be a difficult task.”

He said delegates from the cargo organization were additionally at the scene.

“There have been no wounds however the organization has come down to help the truck driver and sort out the chaos,” he said.

An alternate route is set up by means of Mackenzie and Kensington avenues.
