A magnitude 5.2 earthquake has shaken the northern South Island, with the jolt also felt across Cook Strait.
The quake was centred 20km southwest of Motueka at a depth of 102km.

According to GeoNet, more than 2000 people reported feeling the shake, from as far away as Christchurch and New Plymouth.
It was felt at 8:44am and was initially listed as being a 4.9 magnitude before it it was upgraded
There are no reports of any damage.
