A man is dead after a shooting in Northland, provoking a crime examination.

Police said officials were called to the side of Heke and Hongi lanes in Kaikohe about 8.45 pm on Monday after reports of a firearm being fired.

Acting analyst senior sergeant Mark Dalzell said a man was found almost a vehicle in a basic condition.

“At the time this male was transported to Auckland City Hospital for treatment, yet tragically he had died in transit to the medical clinic.”

Dalzell said the scene was watched medium-term and an assessment will be completed on Tuesday.

One individual, who is helping with requests, is being addressed by police, he said.

Nobody else is being searched for comparable to the shooting.

Close by inhabitants said they didn’t hear any contending or discharges.

One said they saw blazing lights from squad cars and another heard a helicopter come in for a landing.

Dalzell said the examination is still in its beginning periods and a further update will be given once there is additional data.

Kaikohe is about 80km northwest of Whangārei and has a populace of around 4000 individuals.
