Police won’t issue fines to those not wearing face veils on open vehicle on its primary day being obligatory, the Assistant Commissioner says.

Addressing The AM Show on Monday, Assistant Police Cmmr Richard Chambers said the vast majority had been consistent up until now.

Face covers are currently obligatory on open vehicle at ready levels 2 or more.

“A few people are deciding to take their covers off when they get off the train and that is fine,” Chambers said.

“Addressing my partners in Porirua a brief timeframe back – they’ve discovered one individual jumping on a train who didn’t have a cover so [a] huge whoop – I’m certain it’s the equivalent the nation over for the exertion they’re placing in.”

Chambers said the individual who attempted to jump on a train without a veil was given one by cops. On Monday, a great many face covers are being given out by police the nation over.
