The offenders stole cigarettes. There was no report of assaults or injuries.

Their faces were covered but it was unclear if weapons were used.

Police are making further inquiries into the incident, the spokeswoman said.

The station was also robbed in August 2018, when a man brandishing a claw hammer made off with cigarettes and cash.

According to Stuff records, there have been five other robberies at retail stores in Christchurch this month.

A bank and post shop was robbed in Parklands on August 9, then a liquor store in Riccarton three days later.

The following Saturday, the Night ‘n Day in Woolston and a liquor store in Linwood were robbed on the same day.

Early on Friday morning, four people stormed Buns Bakery on Ferry Rd, Phillipstown.

The group was arrested soon after but as of Friday, police had not arrested anyone else.

Stuff has asked the police for an update on arrests.

Detective Sergeant Daniel Overend said on Friday police had reason to believe the group who robbed Buns Bakery were linked to other recent similar robberies.

Officers were working to establish the connection, he said.
