New Zealand side Auckland City came from behind to defeat Solomon Islands club Western United 2-1 in the first game for Group C in the 2017 OFC Champions League.
Western United capitalized on Auckland City’s missed chances in the first half when James Naka connected well with a Henry Fa’arado to give the Solomon Islands club a goal lead into half time.
A mistake by Western United goalkeeper Anthony Talo allowed Darren White to equalise for Auckland City as headed in a Clayton Lewis free kick. Auckland City continued to apply pressure which saw Nelson Sale given his marching orders for a second bookable offence.
Auckland City made use of the extra man advantage and were rewarded when they were awarded a penalty.
Replacement striker Emiliano Tade stepped up to give the Auckland City side a 2-1 lead which they managed to hold on to secure their first 3 points.
