New Zealand triathlete Andrea Hewitt has dedicated her exhilarating World Triathlon Series win in Abu Dhabi to her deceased fiance Laurent Vidal.

Hewitt came from behind to edge Great Britain’s Jodie Stimpson in a sprint finish to win the opening race of the world triathlon series.

It’s her first victory on the WTS win since Vidal’s sudden passing in November 2015.

Through tears Hewitt told reporters in Abu Dhabi that Laurent always told her she had dedication and talent and the only thing missing was emotion.

Stimpson’s silver completed her comeback from the achilles injury that last year ruled her out of the Rio Olympic.
