A car rear-ended a truck on the Waikato Expressway in heavy rain, resulting in one person’s death. Another vehicle in the southbound lane struck the driver, who got out of the car.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the person died at the scene. The Serious Crash Unit was at the scene, and State Highway 1 was closed for several hours. However, the NZ Transport Agency announced that it had reopened after 5:30 pm.
