A Porirua man has been sentenced to nearly nine years in prison for repeated sexual abuse, assault, and threatening to kill his daughter over a decade.
The man was also charged with the rape and assault of another family member. The abuse occurred daily between 11 and 16 years old, with the man threatening to kill her if she told anyone about the abuse.
As the woman grew older and began resisting his advances, the man became more controlling and violent. He treated her more like his partner and became jealous if she spent time alone with other men.
He worked to control her social contacts and insisted she remained hidden when visitors were at the home. He threatened violence towards his daughter and her mother and oversaw her job options when she left school and sought work.
The man pleaded guilty and was sentenced to eight years and five months in prison.
