A mother was fined $150 by police after driving her children to school with an iced-over windscreen. The vehicle was stopped southwest of Christchurch in Wigram at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The mother was issued an infringement fine for driving with an obscured windscreen. As winter officially sets in, the fine reminds motorists to consider safe winter driving.

Police are urging motorists to ensure their car is safe, roadworthy, and well-equipped for winter driving, with a safe spare tire, lights, brakes, and working windscreen wipers. They also urge drivers to defrost their windscreen before heading out in such situations.
