A New Zealand citizen died during Hajj in Saudi Arabia, with nearly 2 million Muslim pilgrims finishing the journey at the Grand Mosque in Makkah.
Foreign authorities reported hundreds of people had died amid temperatures above 51 degrees Celsius. Egyptian medical and security sources reported at least 530 Egyptians had died while participating, up from 307 reported as of yesterday.
The causes of death were not immediately clear to all. Consular assistance was provided to the person’s family.
