An apartment complex in central Auckland was guarded by armed police in response to an incident at about 7:15 am.
There were police cars and ambulances at the scene. At least one person was injured, but the police stated there was no wider risk to the public.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing. Around 12 police officers with firearms were seen at the scene. Two additional ambulances arrived at 7:50 am, but there was no panic or rush.
A resident who had lived at the complex for three years said he heard nothing before the police arrived and that police activity at the apartment building was unusual.
