A fatal accident occurred on State Highway 1 in Himatangi, near Foxton, claiming the life of one person.
Emergency services responded to the incident at 1 a.m., and the Serious Crash Unit is currently on site.
According to the police, the road will remain closed for an extended period as the Serious Crash Unit investigates the scene.
Diversions were set up while the road was closed, and authorities advised motorists to avoid the area.
