A 36-year-old man has been charged with aggravated burglary and assault after an 80-year-old woman was seriously injured during a break-in in Auckland’s Henderson.

The woman was admitted to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police found a person of interest on Thursday and arrested him after extensive inquiries and public information. The suspect is set to appear in the Waitākere District Court on Thursday.

Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie of the Waitematā CIB thanked the community for their assistance.

She assured the public that police were not seeking anyone else about the incident. The victim is currently recovering in a stable condition with her family.
