The 56-year-old man is expected to appear in Nelson District Court on Tuesday.

District Commander Superintendent Tracey Thompson confirmed that the other person inside the house was safe and uninjured.

All cordons have been lifted, and Motueka Street has reopened. “Significant” police resources, including staff from Wellington and Canterbury and a negotiation team, were deployed in Nelson.

The community was thanked for its patience and cooperation. Motueka Street was quiet this morning, and traffic flowed as usual.

The incident was distressing for those involved, and the victims are being offered ongoing support.
