Abdul Aziz Wahabzadah, who was awarded the New Zealand Cross in 2021 for bravery during the Christchurch terror attack, will stand trial next year on an assault charge.
Wahabzadah, who chased a mosque attacker during the Christchurch terror attack, has pleaded not guilty to assault with intent to injure and has chosen to have a judge-alone trial, which has been scheduled for next March.
He will represent himself in court.
In 2019, during the mosque attack, he grabbed a discarded gun, pursued the terrorist, and threw it at his fleeing car, shattering the rear window.
