New Zealand pilot died in a plane crash in Australia.

Adam Snell, a 22-year-old New Zealand pilot, died in a light plane crash in the Australian Outback on 27 June.

He was the sole occupant of a Cessna 172. Snell’s mother, Alison Snell, will return from Adelaide with his ashes on Sunday.

He attended Saint Kentigern College in Auckland before obtaining a Bachelor’s in Aviation at Massey University. The Massey University School of Aviation expressed deep sadness at the accident and condolences to his family and friends.

Snell worked for Jumbuck Pastoral at Mulgathing station for six months before the accident. Police have confirmed that Major Crash Investigators, Forensic Crime Scene officers, and Far North Local Service Area officers attended the scene.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau will investigate the incident, and Safework SA has been notified of the death.

A death notice for the young pilot stated that he was the son of John and Alison Snell, the brother of Lauren and Chelsea, and a cherished grandson and cousin.

A remembrance service will be held at the Kohimarama Presbyterian Church on 27 July.
