Police have initiated a homicide investigation following the death of a young man after an altercation at a residence in Taranaki.
The incident occurred on Strange St in Waitara, and emergency services were called at around 12:46 am.
The victim, who was critically injured, later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
A 25-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The suspect was scheduled to appear in the New Plymouth District Court.
Cordons have been established, and a thorough scene examination will be conducted over the next few days, with an increased police presence in the area while the investigation continues.
