A man named Te Omeka Pairana Akariri-Buckley, 17, died following an altercation at a home in Waitara.
Police were called to the scene after reports of serious injury in the altercation around 12.45 am on Tuesday.
A homicide investigation was launched, and a 25-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged with murder.
The victim appeared before the New Plymouth District Court and was due to appear in the High Court on Friday, August 16.
Police remained at the home while conducting a scene examination, which was due to conclude today.
The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries.
