Police vehicles were reportedly rammed during a pursuit in Hawke's Bay.

A man has been arrested in Havelock North after allegedly ramming two police vehicles during a pursuit.

The incident began around 10 am when officers tried to pull a vehicle over in Camberley, Hastings, to speak with the driver about a burglary.

The driver fled from police, and a pursuit was initiated. During the incident, the driver allegedly rammed two police vehicles.

The man attempted to escape on foot, abandoning his vehicle in Gardiner Place, Havelock North. Police allege he had a firearm.

Cordons were set up, and nearby schools were advised to go into lockdown as a precaution. At around 10:45 a.m., a 43-year-old man was taken into custody without incident.

Schools have been advised and returned to their normal day, and charges are being considered. The incident in Hawke’s Bay has led to the closure of schools and the recovery of a firearm.
