A jewellery store owner in Papatoetoe, New Zealand, was attacked by up to five armed men who allegedly struck him repeatedly in the head with a hammer and knife.

The incident occurred at Pooja Jewellers on Kolmar Rd, Papatoetoe, around 5.45 pm Sunday. The shop owner, a family member, and a worker were injured.

The store owner was taken to Middlemore Hospital with serious injuries after being attacked three times with a hammer on his head and once with a knife on his forehead.

The offenders escaped from the scene and the police searched for those responsible. This incident highlights the seriousness of crime in New Zealand and the need to prevent it.

A spokesperson from St John Ambulance responded to a call about the incident in Papatoetoe and transported one patient in serious condition to Middlemore Hospital.

The Eagle helicopter responded to the area, but the offenders left in a vehicle before its arrival and were not found. The police are working to piece together the exact situation by speaking with witnesses and conducting a scene examination.
