A 59-year-old Onehunga man’s been named as the alleged offender who abducted a woman from Ponsonby and attacked her in a Riverhead quarry.
Colin Jack Mitchell appeared in Auckland District Court yesterday.
He pleaded not guilty to charges of abduction, assault with intent to commit sexual violation, and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Mitchell was granted name suppression until midnight – giving him time to tell his family of his arrest.
A 23-year-old woman woke in the Riverhead quarry two weeks ago, on February 26, after a night out in Ponsonby.
A man was standing over her holding a bat, she had suffered gashes to her face and head, and was partially clothed.
Mitchell’s application for bail was denied – he’s been remanded in custody and will reappear in court in June.
