He pleaded not guilty to charges of abduction, assault with intent to commit sexual violation, and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Mitchell was granted name suppression until midnight – giving him time to tell his family of his arrest.

A 23-year-old woman woke in the Riverhead quarry two weeks ago, on February 26, after a night out in Ponsonby.

A man was standing over her holding a bat, she had suffered gashes to her face and head, and was partially clothed.

Mitchell’s application for bail was denied – he’s been remanded in custody and will reappear in court in June.
