The New Zealand cricketers have been beaten by 5 wickets by Bangladesh in their last game of the tri-series in Ireland.

The Black Caps batted first in the dead rubber, reaching a sub par 270 for eight off their 50 overs on a slow Dublin wicket.

Captain Tom Latham once again proved handy with the bat, reaching 84 while Neil Broom made 63 and Ross Taylor 60.

Latham’s fellow opener Luke Ronchi once again failed to deliver with the bat, making just two runs.

New Zealand’s tail order showed its vulnerability with the last five batsmen making a combined 19 runs.

Bangladesh meanwhile showed they’re capable of batting deep at the top of their order.

Tamim Iqbal made 65 off 80 balls before falling to Mitchell Santer, Sabbir Rahman made the same score before being run out and Mushfiqur Rahmim and Mahumdullah were just short of half centuries.

New Zealand’s spinners Jeetan Patel and Mitchell Santner made the most of the slow wicket, picking up three of the Black Caps’ five wickets.

It’s the first time Bangladesh have beaten New Zealand away from home in 17 attempts.

New Zealand had already won the tri-series after winning three straight games.

The loss won’t be of great concern for the Black Caps’ coaching staff who are still without their front line players.

New Zealand face two friendlies against India and Sri Lanka in London before their ICC Champions Trophy opener against Australia in Birmingham next week.
