UPDATED: 6:44am – One person is dead following a house fire in the Christchurch suburb of Linwood. Emergency services were called to the property on Cashel Street just before 4am.
Crews from three fire engines arrived at the property to find the house well ablaze.contained the fire.

One of the home’s occupants has died; it’s not known whether the deceased is a man or a woman.
The house is extensively damaged and police and fire will be conducting a scene examination this morning.
