Updated: 7:52am – Police have confirmed that shots were fired at a car parked at a house in Te Atatu late yesterday afternoon.

A West Auckland school was in lock down after initial reports of gun shots in the area.

A spokeswoman for Rutherford Primary School earlier confirmed that students and staff are in “casual lock down” following an alert shortly after 3pm. She said staff are being extremely cautious.

Senior Sergeant Eugene Pickett confirmed officers were in attendance at residential address in Te Atatu.

“Gunshots were reportedly heard and police are currently at the scene and making inquiries.

“There are no longer any cordons in place and no one appears to be injured.”

The alleged incident occurred on Springbank Lane and the address police are at is known to them.

No further information is available at this early stage.
