Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was shot dead in Grey Lynn, Auckland, last night.

Emergency services were called to Tuarangi Road after reports of a gun being fired.

A man was found with critical injuries and died at the scene, while three others were also seriously injured.

The people involved knew each other, and the police did not believe there was a broader risk to the public.

Scene guards will remain at the scene until an examination is completed, and an increased police presence is expected.

This is the third homicide investigation in Auckland in the past week, following Anthony Edward Rangi’s death in Onehunga and a man’s death after a stabbing in Mt Wellington.

A woman at the scene reported her nephew was the victim, and police said others had been injured.
