SPORTS NEWS:- Lautoka first team to qualify for Fiji Fact semifinal as Tavua bows out

The Lautoka Football team is the first team to qualify for the Vodafone Fiji Fact at Churchill Park. The hosts defeated Labasa 2-1 to confirm its place in the semifinal from Group A.

Samuela Drudru scored in the first half to give Lautoka a 1-0 lead at the breather. Labasa settled in the second half and levelled scores through Ilisoni Logaivou. The Blues did not let their fans down at home and Benjamin Totori scored his fourth goal of the tournament to give the hosts a 2-1 win. Labasa will have to beat Tavua tomorrow by big score line and hope Suva loses to Lautoka.

Suva thrashed Tavua 6-1 and needs only a draw against Lautoka today to advance to the semifinals from Group A.

Group B is wide open as all teams have chances of qualifying to the semifinal. Nasinu came back strongly from yesterday’s loss to hold Ba 2-2 to keep its chances alive. Nasinu will have to beat Nadi today while Nadi, after beating Rewa 2-1 yesterday, has to beat Nasinu to advance to the semifinals.

Ba, on the other hand, will meet Rewa and both teams are in a must-win situation to book a semifinal spot.

Looking at today’s matches, Nasinu will play Nadi at 11am, Labasa will face Tavua at 1pm, Rewa will play Ba at 3pm while Lautoka will take on Suva at 5pm.
