Denmark’s Michael Morkov says winning World Championship madison gold feels “incredible” only two days after he went through 34 hours in detachment.
Morkov, 34, participated in the initial four days of the UAE Tour before it was dropped as a result of two associated cases with coronavirus.
He was cleared to contend in Berlin by overseeing body the UCI on Saturday.
“Two days prior I was questioning I could begin the race. I’m feeling large and in charge now,” Morkov revealed to BBC Sport.
Morkov and accomplice Lasse Norman Hansen increased a lap on the remainder of the field to be delegated title holders, with New Zealand winning silver and has Germany taking bronze.
“From not having the option to race to get title holder in my total most loved order is incredible,” Morkov included.
Morkov last won the madison world title in 2009, while he and Hansen won the European title in October a year ago.
He was available at the velodrome on Thursday night to watch Denmark – including Hansen – break the group interest world record on their approach to gold.
He spent Friday preparing on rollers in his lodging, chatting with family on the telephone.
Morkov said the most recent few days had been “a wave” yet said it had not influenced his arrangements.
“The main thing I could do was center around the race and remain on target and expectation and cross my fingers that I would have the option to race,” he said.
“So I remained exceptionally quiet and adhered to my arrangements in my room. At last, it hasn’t influenced me by any stretch of the imagination.”
Facetiously inquired as to whether he would consider going into detachment again on the off chance that it implied he would win gold, he answered: “It would appear that it works.
“I trust it’s not a direct result of infection yet I can go into confinement deliberately once more.”
