Updated: 6:55am – Former PDP Leader Lynda Tabuya claims SODELPA is not a Nationalist Party. This despite the party naming hard core nationalists, who were involved in the political upheaval of 2000.

Tabuya says PDP views SODELPA as the champion for the human rights of indigenous people, however it doesn’t do so at the expense or exclusion of other ethnic groups in Fiji.

Tabuya says SODELPA fights specifically for indigenous people who have human rights under international law and PDP fights for workers who have human rights under ILO.

“Actually it’s going to take this fight to a larger stage and we’re excited that SODELPA has agreed to take us on and this fight for our individual policies that as far as the $4 minimum wage, removal of short term contracts of civil servants, restoring collective bargaining rights of workers as granted in the constitution and reviewing of labor laws to be fair to workers.”

Tabuya adds that both parties represent everyone.

Tabuya says PDP also views SODELPA Leader Sitiveni Rabuka as a moderate politician, being the first Prime Minister to attempt a coalition with NFP in 1999.

However, confusion remains on who gave Tabuya and Vijay Singh the mandate to use PDP as a coalition tool.

FBC News understands PDP members are not happy with what has transpired as they do not support the principals of SODELPA.
