Update: 8:40am – Where on one hand there are many initiatives which are taken for the women empowerment, on the other hand, the women belonging to Perna community residing in Premnagar and Dharamshala area of Najafgarh in Delhi are still following the tradition of forced prostitution.
The women of this community are expecting to be prostituted by their husbands or any other male member of a family since they’re young. These women have now accepted their fate and the kind of life they lead.
Women belonging to these tribes work as prostitutes throughout the night, men can be seen playing cards on the narrow lanes. Each night women get out from their houses to earn for their family.
These women say they have to be careful with the policemen as they demand money and free sex. There are many women belonging to this community who have chosen to work as a sex worker because they see no other way to support their families.
However, there are several NGOs working for the empowerment of women in this area.
